St. James Preschool programs

We think of ourselves as the small school that makes a big difference. Our class sizes range between 9 children (for our twos program) and 16 children (for preK), with 2 to 3 teachers per classroom, assuring that every child in our care is seen, heard, and loved.

Our programs are housed in three newly renovated classrooms and a modest but mighty outdoor play space. We consider the Richmond District and the surrounding areas an extension of our school, as we take age-appropriate excursions that increase in adventurousness as the children grow — from walking hand in hand around the block to hiking in the Marin Headlands.

Big day(s)

The first day in our Twos program is often a child’s first step away from home. Thankfully, our “Turtle” class teachers have a combined 40 years of experience in helping toddlers find their stride.

Creative play

The wheels are turning. The hallmark of the threes is explosive development, and our teachers adjust and adapt activities throughout the year to create a dynamic learning environment.

Ready for K!

We add a little more structure into the preK year without subtracting any fun. Skill building continues and work with subject specialists ensures our graduates are well-prepared for what comes next.

Afternoons in the Den

We are working-parent friendly, offering an extended day program for families that need full-day placement (space permitting) that keeps children engaged and happy from drop off to pick-up.
