Welcome to SJP’s next Director, Kerry Tronstad
Dear SJP Community,
I am delighted to announce that the St. James Preschool Board has selected Kerry Tronstad as the next SJP Director.
Since Roger Setterfield announced his plans to retire after 16 years, the SJP Board has been working to find the right Director to bring new energy to SJP’s leadership and to maintain the culture and values that make the school so special. We have found that leader in Kerry.
Kerry is a lifelong educator who has worked in early childhood education for more than 20 years. Most recently she has led Le Petit Elephant and Good Shepherd Lutheran School, two well-respected community preschools in Napa. She has a proven track record of strengthening the foundation of a school while caring for the children and teachers at its heart.
In getting to know Kerry, I have found her to be an eminently experienced, confident, warm leader. Her emphasis on community and on doing right by our children resonate deeply with all that I love about this school. Kerry partners closely with teachers to foster play-based, child-led education. She guides meaningful professional development to ensure continuing education for staff. She builds inclusive, welcoming communities. She is also a parent of a blended family of five children, full of insight and wisdom drawn from that experience.
Over the coming months, Kerry will begin working closely with Roger, Olivia, and the Board to ensure a smooth transition. She will be at school several days a month for the rest of the school year before she takes the reins on July 1st. Roger will continue to support St. James through the summer and will consult as needed on kindergarten admissions in the fall.
We are deeply grateful to Roger for his support and guidance during our search. We have been so fortunate to have Roger’s invaluable leadership over the last 16 years, and I look forward to sharing many opportunities to celebrate him in the coming months.
We are also grateful to our hardworking search committee – Megan Ketchum who led the committee, Moe Jamil, Brian Feth, Stephanie Case, Olivia Tsang, Nicole Banks, Devinah Crespo, Paul Korntheuer, and Katie Hribar – and to our consultant Paul Buckley. A director search is an enormous undertaking, especially alongside our many other full-time responsibilities, but this group stepped up with energy and grace to make a lasting contribution to our community.
Keep an eye out for our first community-wide meet-and-greet with Kerry in the next few weeks. You may also run into her around school throughout the spring as she and Roger work together on the transition. We hope you’ll join us to welcome Kerry into the magic of SJP’s community.
